Tenebrae: A Prayer for Deliverance

Tenebrae returns to Guernsey with a carefully curated programme of sacred choral works spanning from the Renaissance to the contemporary. The concert centers on Joel Thompson's A Prayer for Deliverance, a modern setting of Psalm 102 composed in response to calls for justice and mercy. Surrounding Thompson's work are pieces by Holst, Howells, Shaw, Tavener, Vaughan Williams, and others, each offering distinct meditations on grief, hope, and transcendence. The programme moves through evening liturgy and spiritual reflection, anchored by Herbert Howells' Requiem and concluding with works of consolation and peace. Tenebrae's precise yet deeply expressive approach creates space for listeners to sit with these ancient texts and their contemporary relevance.
