Gaura Vani is a storyteller and musician whose work centers on kirtan and the magic of story and song. For two decades he has toured globally and released multiple albums, sharing the stage with artists such as Jai Uttal and Krishna Das. He describes his music as an invitation for the heart to sing, whether in intimate gatherings or on global stages.
His life reads like a storybook. He was raised by monks in temples from the age of four, immersed in mantra and ritual as part of daily life. In his teens he rebelled and went on to act in Hollywood, appearing in films alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, among others. Since then he has helped produce events and media that uplift community through kirtan, music and the teachings of the spiritual teachers of ancient India.
Beginning with his first rock and roll band in high school, he has produced and recorded 10 albums and thousands of songs. His discography includes Ten Million Moons and Leaps and Bounds. He collaborates in As Kindred Spirits, a fusion of East and West rooted in bhakti; in The Hanumen, a soulful quartet combining world percussion, chant and harmony; and in The Juggernauts, which brings high-energy kirtan to festival audiences.
His music has been heard at Lollapalooza, Floyd Fest, Bhakti Fest, Omega Ecstatic Chant and Wanderlust, as well as in temples, opera houses, yoga studios and other sacred spaces around the world. A father and a traveler, he has spent the last twenty years circling the globe, collecting stories and songs to heal the heart, soothe the soul, and rock this crazy rock we call home.

Worth Knowing
Gaura Vani is a kirtan artist and meditation teacher raised from birth in temples across India and the US by Hare Krishna parents—a lineage tradition known as gurukuli, where children grow up immersed in devotional practice and Sanskrit sacred music. Unlike many Western kirtan artists who came to the practice later, Gaura Vani's entire life has been oriented around Krishna devotion and the performance of ancient mantra singing, playing traditional Indian instruments, and transmitting these practices to the next generation, including his own three children. His work stands apart because it carries the weight of lived, generational spiritual practice rather than later-life conversion or academic study. Listeners and students are drawn to him because his kirtan carries an authenticity rooted in childhood temple experience—he has internalized the devotional language, rhythm, and spiritual intention in ways that typically require decades of study. Beyond music, Gaura Vani functions as a meditation teacher and cultural carrier, bringing the full context of bhakti yoga (devotion through singing) to Western audiences hungry for practices that connect them to something older and more grounded than contemporary spirituality often offers.
