Eric Archer is a multi-instrumentalist, artist and poet who draws inspiration from nature and its bounty. His instruments include fingerstyle guitar, charango/ronroco, tabla, bansuri and native-style flutes, banjo, n'goni, handpan and frame drum. His collaborations range across americana, trip-hop, kirtan, folk, celtic, ambient and Indian-classical music. He studies tabla with Sri Suryaksha Deshpande of the Farrukhabad Gharana and bansuri with Grammy-Award winner Steve Gorn. He continues to make mantra music fusion with Prema Mayi, and he accompanies Biff Mithoefer's Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings with music. He also plays in the duo Shutterdog, which pairs oud with tabla and bansuri.
Eric has taught and played music at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, as Bard/Musician-in-Residence and as a staff instructor. He has also been faculty at the Finger Lakes School of Massage and the Millbrook School. He was one of the Innkeepers of the historic Sunnybank Inn in Hot Springs, NC, a focal point for Southern balladry and Appalachian roots music. His teaching covers meditation, music, yoga, Yin Yoga and mindfulness. He draws on group discussion and time in nature, and he has studied and practiced at Plum Village with Thich Nhat Hahn's monastic community. He teaches Yin Yoga through the Jamtse School, a longtime collaboration with Biff Mithoefer.
As a woodcarver and painter, Eric makes organic wall sculptures from natural, found and reclaimed materials. He is Creative Director of Hudson Valley InterArts, an art center in Patterson, NY. He also writes ecstatic spoken word poetry, which grew out of his teaching of meditation. His concerts weave songs with poetry and stories.
